International Women’s Day 2026

It’s been 3 years since I posted on/about this holiday. Feel free to find that post and read it for more information about the day and how I tried to honor it that year. This one will be shorter.

My heart is heavy this week with all the recent news. So I just want to take this time to remember and honor the lives of the students and others who were killed in an airstrike on a girls’ school, about 175 of them. They were in a country that is not always easy to be a girl in. As a teacher and now a mom, my heart is broken. I know the school was located next to a military base, and I hope that means this was an accident. But in case my country never formally apologizes for this devastating tragedy, I would like to. I am sorry that you lost your girls, staff, and others there. It should not have happened. I will pray for healing for the families, some good to come out of it, and for something like this to never happen again.

I know there are many hardships facing women (and everyone) around the world. My first time celebrating this event was in Afghanistan, where it was a recognized holiday. I’m not sure if it still is under the current regime. Girls by and large aren’t even allowed to go to school there. Please join me in praying for better futures for them and for women around the world. This year’s theme for the day is “Give to Gain,” so feel free to donate if there is a charity that helps women that you feel drawn toward.
