My name is Jessie. I’m a novice writer who dabbles in memoirs, fantasy, and YA fiction. In addition, I write posts for my church blog.
I love traveling, exploring, going on adventures, and reading maps. The stories of women who have undertaken journeys that made an impact on themselves or the world inspire me, too. I started this blog many years ago to chronicle these journeys, whether fictional, historical, or current. Of course, some of the journeys I write about are my own! Especially while I was teaching overseas, or the road trips I took in my summers off from teaching here in Oregon. Now I have a fun-loving husband and 5 sweet step-kids (plus my cat, because writers must have cats), so I’m starting to write about our trips to give others ideas for their own adventures. I hope you enjoy them all.

This photo was an early selfie (real camera, not cell phone!) from right before I moved from Salem, OR, to Southern China in 2011. I snapped this at Salem’s Waterfront Park to point out where I was heading. Since then, I’ve lived in small town Southern Oregon, the capital of Afghanistan, and the last several years in my hometown area of Eugene/Springfield in the Willamette Valley. I worked in schools as an instructional assistant in the Salem area for 10 years and then taught my own classrooms for 9 years before taking a few years off to work in a quiet office job in the insurance industry. Currently I am teaching math and geography in the Eugene/Springfield area.

I read and wrote about Gudrun, too – a little bit funny since the book is (clearly) not new. I’m glad I’m not the only one.

Hi, Cliff! Thank you for your comment. Sorry I haven’t had a chance to respond before now. My blog took a back seat while I adjusted to my 1st year teaching secondary school. Still swamped, but just had a week of vacation, so I have a bit of time to catch up on blogging! My blog isn’t really so much travel oriented as about personal journeys and living abroad, but I appreciate your offer about green travel tips. Protecting the environment is very important to me. If I come to a good spot to share those tips with my readers, I’ll let you know!
